Mechanical Design Engineer

Current Principal Job Objective

Reporting to the Head of Engineering Design, the Mechanical Design Engineering will be responsible for creating and producing complete 3D Inventor designs for new inking and ink wash-up systems using Autodesk Inventor. Provision of technical / installation support / commissioning to ensure a high-quality installation of the purchased product(s) takes place.

Job Role

  • Design of new jobs using 3D design technology which meets the customer & manufacturing requirements.
  • Ensure the design of components permits efficient, cost-effective manufacture and procurement.
  • Creating parts lists and bills of materials.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, shop floor and other departments.
  • Onsite measurement of client machines worldwide followed by the production of appropriate specifications.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, in particular the CE machinery directive and conformance. Also, design risk assessments are carried out to ensure all safety issues have been covered.
  • Review designs and identify with colleagues where existing designs can be improved and integrated into future projects.
  • Evaluation of a variety of drawings, blueprints and schematics to ensure customer and production needs are met.
  • Estimating time scales and in some instances costs to complete a project.
  • To assist in the preparation of works procedures for the building, production testing and R&D testing of new or existing products.
  • To work with and assist the other members of the engineering department in matters relating to product development, value engineering and real-time solving of production problems.
  • Ensure the tidy upkeep of the existing drawing and parts library and entry on the in-house library.

Key Accountabilities

  • To define clients’ needs by site visits & preparations of specifications.
  • To produce high-quality designs which reflect client needs & minimise production costs.
  • To monitor, measure and report on design issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and timescales.

Essential Skills

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years+ relevant mechanical design experience.
  • Must be strong on 3D CAD, ideally Inventor.
  • Must have considerable experience designing bespoke machinery.
  • Practical on-site engineering skills and methodology would be a distinct advantage.

Installations Specialist Absolute Americas

Absolute is the world’s leading manufacturer of Carbon Fibre Chambered Doctor blade systems. With over 17,000 units installed, we are looking for a committed and hard-working Installations Specialist to help us install, service and train operatives on our equipment, which also includes inking systems and an on-press ultrasonic roll cleaner. We are an innovative company with a specialised R&D department that works with key OEMs to develop our products and solve issues within the packaging industry. Absolute is part of the Pamarco group of companies, Pamarco is the leading manufacturer of Anilox rolls.

The role involves the following

  • Travelling across the Americas to complete installations of our Chambers Systems, InkSave systems, SONO
  • Measuring machines for retro fitted installations and supplying measurements to design team (training given)
  • Carrying out service work on Absolutes product range.
  • Training of operatives on Absolutes product range
  • Installation report writing

Applicants must have the following

  • Engineering Qualification Mechanically biased, some electrical knowledge is a bonus
  • Full Driving License
  • Willingness to travel on a weekly basis averaging 4 days per week.
  • Ability to write coherent installation reports.

  • Travelling across the UK & Europe to complete installations of our Chamber Systems, InkSave systems and SONO Products.
  • Troubleshooting in a clear and logical approach relaying findings and key measurements back to the design team.
  • Carrying out service work and building up a clear and in-depth knowledge of Absolutes product range.
  • Training of operatives on Absolutes product range.
  • Producing detailed installation reports.

Installation Engineer

Absolute Engineering are the World Leader in Carbon Fibre Chambers for use within many industries but predominantly within the Graphic Arts sector. We are currently looking for an apprentice-trained Mechanical Engineer/Fitter to join our small but dedicated installation team which covers the whole world except for the Americas. If you have electrical knowledge too, we would welcome this as we have a range of products in the marketplace which this skill would complement. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support our dynamic sales team, manage the spares department, and help organise the logistics of key industry events like trade shows.
We are looking for a proactive individual who is proficient in working alongside both teams in the UK and the USA to deliver excellent customer service. The office is in a modern state-of-the-art engineering complex of the parent company.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Support

  • Process and track customer orders, ensuring timely and accurate order fulfilment, from order placement to delivery.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (logistics, production, finance) to coordinate and track deliveries, invoicing, and order status.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Maintain and update customer records in the CRM system, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date.
  • Address customer inquiries promptly, providing product information, pricing details, and resolving any order-related issues.

Spares Department Management:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the spares department, including managing inventory and stock levels.
  • Issue spares quotes promptly in response to customer requests and ensure quotes are accurate and competitive.
  • Track and process spare parts orders, ensuring timely dispatch and delivery.

Order Processing and Documentation

  • Create quotes, process sales orders, and ensure all relevant documentation is organised and filed accurately.
  • Coordinate with the production and logistics teams to ensure orders are processed and shipped on time.

Administrative Support

  • Support the team with administrative tasks related to proposals, contracts, and pricing requests.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to organize logistics for trade shows, conferences, and customer events, including coordinating transportation, booth setup, and event materials.

Qualification

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Marketing, or related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a sales administration role or similar administrative capacity (1-2 years preferred).
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is essential.
  • Experience in the manufacturing or print/packaging industry is a plus.
  • Experience in managing inventory and stock levels, particularly for spare parts, is highly desirable.
  • Prior involvement in event coordination, such as trade shows or conferences, is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong organisational skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to ensure accuracy in all documentation and reports.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with customers, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Knowledge of spare parts management, including stock control, inventory monitoring, and issuing quotes.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to handle customer inquiries and resolve issues efficiently.
